Fossilized shells of the ancient sea creature, ammonite, are cut into small, thin layers (called ammolite) and placed on a stone base and capped with clear quartz. This treatment is called a 'triplet' and protects the shell so it can be worn in jewelry. Without this, the ammolite is too thin and delicate to withstand wearing. Ammolite has a colorful and natural iridescence that is absolutely striking. If you're into rainbow colors and prehistoric creatures, you'll truly appreciate these earrings!
The earrings measure 2 3/4" long x 3/4" wide and 1/4" thick.
