Coral

Coral is a stone of organic origin.  It was formed long before our time when tiny living sea creatures called polyps settled in enormous colonies in the depths of warm seas.  There are many types of coral used in the manufacturing of jewelry such as bamboo coral, apple coral, sponge coral, blue coral, gold coral and black.  Precious coral is distinguished from other corals by their durable and intensely colored red or pink skeleton. The hard skeleton of red coral branches is naturally matte, but can be polished to a glassy shine. Owing to its intense and permanent coloration and glossiness, precious coral skeletons have been harvested since antiquity for decorative use. Coral jewelry has been found in ancient Egyptian and prehistoric European burials, and continues to be made to the present day. The Victorians carved detailed coral roses and cameos; American Indians mixed coral with various stones.  It is one of the most ancient of gem materials.

Coral represents diplomacy and concurrence.  It is also said to quite the emotions and to bring peace to within the self.  It facilitates intuition, imagination, and visualizations, and helps one to both understand and to use the qualities of the mystic; it can bring one into communication with past spiritual masters of this world and can expedite and accelerate the transfer of knowledge.  Red coral is worn in modern cultures and ancient cultures as a talisman to protect the wearer. Coral can be used to reconnect with nature and its variety of wonders. Coral also attracts love and prosperity, particularly red coral, which is a stone of passion. Creativity and optimism are also qualities that coral brings out. Emotionally, coral brings inner peace, strength, and understanding of purpose.
